Sylvain Bleau, director of Cinédanse Québec 2015, is pleased to announce the creation of the Lumière Award which will be given before the closing film of the Festival on September 27.
Mrs. Martine Époque, emblematic dance figure in Québec, will chair the international jury that will reward the artist who created an outstanding work. The other members of this jury are: from Québec City, Josianne Desloges, visual art journalist and columnist for Le Soleil newspaper, Sébastien Hudon, artistic director of La Bande-Vidéo; Kathleya Afanador, Manager of Programming and Content Acquisition at TenduTV (New-York); Greta Schoenberg, founder and artistic director of the San Francisco Dance Film Festival; Thierry Thieû Niang, French choreographer and ‘Mor Shani, young Israeli choreographer and dancer.
The winning artist will receive a three-week residency to create in Québec City a new art film, a prize estimated at more than $20,000. The film will premiere at the 3rd edition of Cinédanse in 2017. Sylvain Bleau wishes to thank for their generosity the artistic management teams of Spira, La Bande-Vidéo and La Rotonde, Québec City’s Contemporary Dance Presenter who each offered a week of residency, equipment and resources.
Mr. Bleau named the “Lumière Award” as a salute to the brothers Auguste and Louis Lumière who, as early as the late 19th century, at the very first steps of cinema, experimented dance with their famous Danse Serpentine (1896), featuring the great Loïe Fuller.
