The faun dance/Pakutishkuauat Nimuat in Sept-Îles

Workshops & projections : The faun dance/Pakutishkuauat Nimuat in Sept-Îles, from May 22 to 25

Montréal, Thursday, May 9th 2024

In the build-up to the festival in July, Cinédanse is inviting people with cerebral palsy and motor disorders, as well as artists, researchers, healthcare professionals and the general public on the North Shore, to take part of free workshops The faun dance/Pakutishkuauat nimuat, with New York choreographer Tamar Rogoff from May 22 to 25 at Musée Shaputuan in Uashat and Studio de danse – Fandango, in Sept-Îles.

“The intelligence of the body is great, unsuspected. It often cannot be explained. Dance, artistic creation and patient work with the body can reinvent beings, releasing tensions that have always been buried. Science remains seized by phenomena of rebirth”

– Sylvain Bleau, directeur of La Caravane de Phoebus, producer of Cinédanse.

Free screening open to the public

Wednesday May 22 at 7pm in Musée Shaputuan. 290 Bd des Montagnais, Sept-Rivières (Uashat)

« Enter faun » : a powerful documentary !

New York choreographer Tamar Rogoff wanted to create a new version of L’Après-midi d’un faune (1912), Vaslav Nijinsky’s landmark piece created by Diaghilev’s famous Ballets Russes. She chose to work with the young actor Greg Mozgala, who suffers from cerebral palsy, to interpret the faun.

Tamar Rogoff adapted her creative and teaching techniques to Gregg Mozgala’s physical condition, and he agreed to submit his body and mind to her choreographer’s designs. Together, they reinvented their practice and their very existence.

Free workshops

Free workshops for people with cerebral palsy, motor disorders, artists, researchers, healthcare professionals and the general public.

Tamar Rogoff will offer a program of exercises through which participants will experience a new approach to managing their motor skills. Like Gregg Mozgala, who learned to break with motor habits engendered by cerebral palsy, participants will be led to discover parts of their body over which they previously had little control, and which can be sources of motor rehabilitation.

Certain exercises, based on the brain’s neuroplasticity, aim to break with acquired routines in the way we move and explore new avenues in motor control. Participants will also discover the “involuntary shaking” technique, in which muscle relaxation reduces tension in the body, while reducing pain signals and increasing feelings of well-being.

Multidisciplinary artist Johanne Roussy, from Sept-Îles, will accompany and assist Tamar Roggoff throughout her visit.
