Synopsis : In the summer of 2017, Cinédanse is organizing a series of workshops given by French choreographer Thierry Thieû Niang to volunteer groups of seniors and youth across Québec and in Ottawa. Director Béatriz Mediavilla (Danse avec elles, 2014) is then invited to join the tour from Montréal to Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, from Paspébiac to Rouyn-Noranda. At a time when the pandemic seems to be capsizing our human and intergenerational relationships, Mediavilla’s prose-cinema captures the spirit of the times and gives us hope. Her film, in ten chapters, opens the discussion on subjects that seem more relevant than ever: our relationship to aging, to ourselves, to others, to strangers, to the passage of time. We are moved by a poem, hustled by a manifesto and challenged by a passage from Homer’s Iliad, which resonates as a reminder of the great migrations of yesterday, today.

Because this film-poem is full of testimonies from young people who participated in the workshops, including Charlize Bulhoes-Normand (St-Jean-Port-Joli) and Ilario Del Guercio (Montréal), its distribution in schools is more than relevant. The artists Antoine Charbonneau-Demers, young actor and writer (Robert-Cliche Award for his first novel Coco 2016; Young Author Award from Salon du livre de Paris 2019), Joséphine Bacon, Innu poet, lyricist and director, and Martine Époque, a great pioneer of contemporary dance in Québec, just before leaving us, who philosophized about dance and the true place it should occupy in our lives.
